FAQ

What is the main difference between a pool and a spa/hot tub?

Pools are larger, designed for swimming, exercise, and active play, while spas (or hot tubs) are smaller, meant for sitting, relaxation, and hydromassage. Once you have a pool and spa combination, you can enjoy two different experiences.

Can I exercise in a spa or hot tub?

Spas are not ideal for swimming or vigorous exercise due to their size, but some swim spas offer resistance currents for light workouts. Pools allow for full-range motion, making them better for laps and water games.

How can I create a resort-like experience at home with a swim spa hot tub combo?

Many homeowners would let their combination pools along with beautiful landscaping, outdoor furniture, and even fun additions like a mini-golf course. This setup allows for recreation, relaxation, and entertainment—just like a high-end retreat.

Is it more cost-effective to have just a pool or just a swim spa?

Swim spas are generally less expensive to install and maintain than the same-sized pools. However, if you want both experiences without the cost of two separate installations, a pool and spa combination could be a smart compromise.

Can I install a pool spa combination in a small backyard?

Yes! Many compact designs integrate a small pool with an attached swim spa to maximize functionality in limited spaces. Creative landscaping can make even a cozy backyard feel like a private oasis.

How long do you have to wait to get into your hot tub after shock dosing it?

When treating the water in a swim spa hot tub combo with a chlorine-based shock, it is important to wait until the chlorine level has returned to a safe range (typically 1–3 ppm) before entering. High residual chlorine can cause skin irritation or health issues such as folliculitis.
The waiting time depends on factors such as the dosage applied, water circulation, and temperature. In most cases, it takes around 4–8 hours for the oxidation process to complete and for chlorine levels to stabilise.
For best practice, always follow the instructions provided with the shock product and confirm safe chlorine levels with a chemical test strip before use.

If you over-chlorinate your hot tub, what should you do?

Stop using it immediately.

Open the cover, leave the area, and allow the swim spa or pool spa combination to fully ventilate. Avoid breathing in water vapour with excessive chlorine.

Next, adjust the chlorine level:

Dilution: Drain one-third to one-half of the water and refill with fresh water. Using RO or filtered water is recommended to reduce impurities and stabilise chlorine levels.

Aeration: Run the circulation pump and air blower for 4–6 hours to help chlorine gas escape faster.

Chemical neutralisation: If levels remain high, add a chlorine neutraliser according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Before using again, test the water to make sure chlorine levels have returned to the safe range (usually 1–3 ppm for spas).
